It is no secret how powerful social media marketing is for businesses in today’s world, yet many entrepreneurs struggle to stand out amongst all the competition.

This blog post will teach you how to successfully appeal to a cold audience. You know – the ones that don’t know you yet – in order to reach your marketing goals.

These tips won’t work if you are not consistent. You have to show up for your audience daily to nurture your brand online.

The more consistent you are with social media, the more your audience grows and engages with you!

Now, let’s get into the tips…

Authenticity isn’t enough

Don’t get me wrong, it is important to be unique. When a brand is successful in a saturated market, it is because they are doing something different. It can be their marketing strategy, a unique selling point, or how they engage with the audience et cetera. A brand can even dominate by using a social media platform others do not. For instance, a gaming company can promote their games using LinkedIn instead of Twitch.

That said your audience does not care much that you are ‘different’ to others in your niche – unless it benefits them. Therefore, to make your authenticity count you have to tie it to your buyer persona’s pain points. These pain points provoke a desire for a solution, which is where your brand presents itself.

It is powerful.

Use your authenticity to channel the audience’s desires.

A great example of a brand that stood out on social media for tying their authenticity to a pain point is ‘Fashion Nova’.

They are well known for selling trending pieces. Moreover, they were one of the first to produce these clothing items at affordable prices.

The Fashion Nova marketing geniuses knew that authenticity wouldn’t sell in itself so they tapped into the pain point that many women face: being desirable. Women want to feel attractive. Fashion Nova’s Instagram echoes ‘if you want to feel more desirable, this is what you need’.

Their content strategy includes having desirable influencers and celebrities address that pain point. For instance, women draw near to the brand when Cardi B wears the brand. Such brand advocacy gives women hope of being as aesthetically pleasing as the women modelling the clothes.

This also shows how well they understand their buyer persona and make authentic content that gets a response from their ideal customer.

Your brand will stand out when you give the audience what they want.

Now I want you to ask yourself, in this order…

  1. What is it about my service or product that is different?
  2. How does this relate to my ideal audience’s pain point?
  3. How can I implement this in my social media strategy (e.g. content production)

Now, use your authenticity and ability to resonate with your ideal audience to stand out on social media!

Social media needs quality copywriting

Copywriting is writing words that sell.

It is easy to neglect the power of writing in the midst of content creation but writing is imperative to standing out. It gives you the opportunity to demonstrate the voice of the brand. You get to speak the audience’s language and become more relatable and personable.

Stop writing aimless captions with a basic question and CTA because you have to fill the empty space. Ditch the emoji filled Instagram bios/captions and write to invoke a response. This is how you can further push engagement with your brand by inspiring people to comment on your posts.

Your caption proves that your brand is real, not automated.

Start to put more effort into every word you write. Remember, it is never in vain as the algorithm also picks up these words and will push your content to the right audiences, which helps you to stand out!

Know what your competitors are doing on social media

How can you stand out without having stalked your competitors’ strategy?

I’m serious.

If standing out means doing something different, you first have to know the norm for your niche.

Remember, your competitors are not always your enemies.

Take notes from those who are where you want to be. However, do not copy and paste their strategy as your own. Do it to get a clear understanding of what you need to do differently with your social media strategy to stand out.

Use a few case studies to establish a baseline as you improve your online presence.

Conclusion

Remember that no market is too saturated.

This is a fact.

All it takes is consistently pushing authentic content that meets the needs of your ideal audience. Your brand’s legacy is not built overnight, this takes time and patience but with these tips it is more than possible to stand out and reach your social media goals.
